Do I need medical training to perform a LUCIRA® by Pfizer COVID-19 & Flu Home Test?
No specialized medical training is required to run the LUCIRA® by Pfizer COVID-19 & Flu Home Test. The instructions are included in the package and are all that you need to learn how to run the test. Please read the instructions first. For this test to work properly, you must follow each step.
Is LUCIRA® by Pfizer the same as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test?
The LUCIRA® by Pfizer COVID-19 & Flu Home Test and lab-based PCR tests are both molecular tests. These tests detect genetic material called RNA from a target virus. However, molecular tests can do this in different ways. LUCIRA® by Pfizer COVID-19 & Flu Home Test uses a technology called RT-LAMP, or reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification.
How many times can I use this test?
Once. LUCIRA® by Pfizer is a single-use test only.
How long is the shelf life for this test?
The shelf-life for the LUCIRA® by Pfizer COVID-19 & Flu Home Test is 18 months. Please be sure to check the expiration date of your individual test on the back of the box.
Should I follow up with my healthcare provider about my results?

What if I make a mistake during the testing process?
If you do not follow the steps exactly as outlined in the instructions, there is a chance you may get an incorrect or invalid test result. If you think you’ve made a mistake, perform another test with a new kit, paying close attention to the process instructions. If you receive any invalid results, retest with a new test or contact Pfizer at 1-888-LUCIRA-4 (582-4724).
Is LUCIRA® by Pfizer covered by insurance?
Depending on your insurance coverage, LUCIRA® by Pfizer COVID-19 & Flu Home Test may be reimbursable under your health plan benefits.
